Haimen is what was then called Dongbuzhou, founded at the 5th
year of XianDe of later Zhou Dynasty. Up to nowadays, the history
of Haimen is more then 1000 years. Haimen City, covering a total
area of 1001 sqkm, has a population of 1.03 million.
¡¡¡¡Generations after generation of hardworking and intelligent
people have been fostered in such an ideal treasure land as Haimen.
Celebrities in the history of Haimen are Mr. Ji Fang, a political
activist, Mr. Zhang Jian, a famous entrepreneur in modern history,
Mr.Wang Geyi, a contemporary painter. There are 5400-odd compatriots
of Haimen in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, boasting the most in Jiangsu
province.
Industrial
Background
Haimen now has more then 1200 enterprises outputting
over 3000 sorts of products in 150 categories. A multi-field industrial
system covering spinning, mechanical, metallurgical, building
materials, light industry, electronic, silk, chemistry etc. Bio-medical
& chemical industry, new materials, light & textile industry
which have become 3 mature industry groups, account for more than
85 percent of the total industrial output. Such famous brands
as Tongguang cable, Zhongxing special steel, Nitride-silicon ceramics,
Shunhai ventilator, Jiangshan hoseking, Baihua handkerchief etc.,
have won the nationwide championship. Being a satellite city of
Shanghai, Haimen will come to a rapid development rail along with
that of Shanghai.
City building
Since the old town was remodeled in 1995, Haimen has taken on
a new look. Great change has taken place. The city environment
has been rapidly improved and the quality of people¡äs living standard
has been greatly upgraded. Haimen has been appointed as a state-level
hygienic city and civilized city of Jiangsu province. Haimen is
taking the lead to accomplish the work for National Civilized
City and Environmental Protection Model City. Services as banks,
insurance, securities and financing are available. Guesthouse
services are up to the standard. There are three 4-starred and
five 3-starred hotels in Haimen.
Location traffic
¡¡ 1.Airway: Accessible to first-class highways. HEDZ is
30km away from Nantong Airport to the north, 120km from Shanghai
Hongqiao & Pudong Airport to the south.
¡¡¡¡2.Railway: It¡¯s 30 km from HEDZ to Xingchang Railway and Huchongsu
Railway will pass through HEDZ.
¡¡¡¡3.Highway: The new Ninqi Highway is under construction starting
from Nanjing and terminating in Qidong and will run through HEDZ
with adequate access points. It takes only 2 hours from Haimen
to Shanghai and 3 hours to Nanjing through Ningtong Highway.
¡¡¡¡4.Waterway: HEDZ is 30km away from Nantong International Container
Terminal, a busy and efficient auxiliary port attached to the
Ocean Shipping Center of Shanghai Port.
¡¡¡¡5.Port: On the north bank of the Yangtze River, Haimen Harbor
boasts a natural harbor and the closest one to Shanghai and the
shortest waterway towards the sea. It is suitable for such projects
as 10,000 tonnage docks for passengers & cargo, building material,
petroleum, shipyard etc.
¡¡¡¡6.River-Crossed Tunnel Project: A tunnel across the Yangtze
River from Pudong to Chongming and 1.8km-long bridge from Chongming
to Haimen will be built with a north bridgehead located in HEDZ.
¡¡¡¡7.HEDZ enjoys superior geographical location and rapid and convenient
transportation, it is one of the development zones lying closest
to Shanghai.
Natural conditions
¡¡ Being in a subtropical moist climate marked with seasonal
oceanic features, Haimen enjoys different seasons and abundant
rainfall with a perennial mean temperature 15.1¡æ, annual average
precipitation 1033.1mm.
¡¡¡¡Annual average water temperature shows 17.6¡æ, turbidity of surface
water keeps less than 1 degree , color degree below 5, without
foul smell, PH value of surface water is consistent at 7.44, annual
average highest tide records 5.50M and lowest tide 0.62M.
¡¡¡¡There are four types of soil such as alluvial soil, powder soil,
sandy soil and fine sandy soil. The thickness of powder clay,
which is used as endurable foundation to support the ordinary
buildings, varies from 2 to 4 meter. Annual average underground
water level reads 0.8 to 1.0 meter.
